Our Growing Area

Located nine miles southeast of Napa County is the Solano County Green Valley American Viticulture Area (AVA).  This viticulture area is distinguished from surrounding areas by climatic variances and by the soil.  The Green Valley grape is characterized by cool, moist winds blowing inland from the ocean and the bay almost continuously from May through early fall.  Due to Green Valley's proximity to the Pacific Ocean, fog is very prevalent in the valley during the months of May, June, July, and August.  The soil in Green Valley consists of Conejo clay loam.  G V Cellars is the lone winery in the AVA.  The winery and vineyard are situated on approximately 40 acres, and the current 36,416 vines were planted over a five year period from 1991 through 1996.  The Vineyard is planted with the following six different varietals:

Merlot:                                      3 lots     10.63 acres

Sangiovese:                             4 lots     8.40 acres

Syrah:                                        2 lots     5.00 acres

Cabernet Sauvignon:           3 lots     4.00 acres

Dolcetto:                                  2 lots     3.95 acres
